The Kentridge Senior Living Celebrates the Federal Holiday of Juneteenth

At The Kentridge Senior Living, we stand firmly in the belief that, regardless of individual differences, we all deserve to thrive in a space that values the work we do and the worth of everyone. Our goal is to create a culture that employees can rely on to be equitable and fair. So, to honor that goal, during the week leading up to June 19, 2023, we will be celebrating the Federal Holiday of Juneteenth with our employees and residents. 

Juneteenth marks the day when federal troops arrive in Galveston, Texas, the last corner of the United States, to ensure all enslaved people be freed. Today, Juneteenth honors the end of slavery in the United States.

To celebrate the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States we will be incorporating an enlightening and thought-provoking educational video. We will enliven the festivities with an African cultural dancer. Dressed in colorful traditional attire, this performer will captivate our residents and staff with her rhythmic movement, symbolic gestures, and rich story telling through dance. No celebration is complete without indulging in delectable food that brings people together. This Juneteenth event embraces this sentiment by featuring an African BBQ dinner, offering an exquisite array of flavors and culinary traditions. African cuisine is a tapestry of tastes, featuring a blend of aromatic spices, vibrant colors, and diverse ingredients.
