As spring arrives, our team turns its attention to one of the most visible parts of our community: landscaping. Beautiful grounds do not happen by chance. They come from thoughtful planning, seasonal preparation, and steady attention to detail.
After winter, I take a proactive approach to refreshing our outdoor spaces. My goal is to keep them visually appealing, safe, and enjoyable for residents. As the Plant Operations Director at The Kentridge Senior Living, I focus on the steps that help our community look its best each spring.
For the spring refresh, my team evaluates areas that need attention. We look at high-traffic spaces, first-impression areas, and safety concerns. These priorities guide our process between seasons.
From there, we decide what needs attention first based on urgency and overall impact. We also welcome input from residents and families. Their feedback helps us identify additional areas to include in the refresh.

This past April, our team completed a large seasonal project by washing all exterior windows around the community. Since this is a significant project, we cannot complete it as often as we would like. Spring gave us the ideal time to take it on.
Once we finished, the difference was easy to see. More natural light came into the community, and the views from inside became much clearer. Many residents spend time looking out their windows throughout the day, so this project had a meaningful impact on their daily experience.
It also gave the building a fresher, cleaner appearance from the outside. That helped create a strong impression for families and visitors.
I consistently review what is happening around the building and identify what needs completion. Before a project begins, I confirm that the necessary materials are available. As the project progresses, I follow up to ensure the work meets our standards and no details get missed.
One of the most common spring startup issues involves mulch beds. Winter storms can knock items out of place, and early spring rains can wash leftover mulch onto sidewalks.
To prevent this, I plan to walk the community in the fall and make sure everything is secure before winter begins. During these walkthroughs, I will also check the flower beds. If needed, I will determine whether edging can help keep mulch in place and out of sidewalks and grass.
Moving forward, I plan to create a seasonal checklist to guide each transition. This will help ensure the team reviews every detail, no matter how big or small.
It is easy to see the finished product, but real success comes from teamwork. Coordination, accountability, and pride help bring each project together. These efforts ensure The Kentridge Senior Living continues to meet the standards residents expect while setting the tone for the months ahead.
