Labor Day is often considered to be the unofficial “end of summer” holiday but is actually an effort to recognize American workers. It was first celebrated in New York City in 1882 and signed into law as a legal holiday by President Grover Cleveland in 1894. Kentridge Senior Living will be recognizing this 140th year anniversary of Labor Day by proclaiming appreciation to our employees.
As a community, we decided 2022 would be “The Year of the Employee,” and thus focused our business plans on ways to celebrate those individuals who make Kentridge Senior Living what it is and allow us to do what we do. We recognize that healthcare and caregiving is a difficult profession at the best of times but adding COVID-19 to the mix amplified the struggle.
And yet, in the face of extreme uncertainty and never seen circumstances, our employees adapted to the constantly changing CDC guidelines, routine testing, personal protective equipment requirements, visitor restrictions, and so much more on a monthly, weekly, or sometimes even daily basis. Throughout it all, our teams remained committed to providing our residents with the best quality of care regardless of what protocols were in place. It was the tenacity of those individuals, their dedication despite the uncertainty, that allowed us to remain #ArrowStrong.
As the Business Office Director, one way I show appreciation to our amazing teams is through a weekly campaign of creative follow ups (CFUs). A CFU is simply a way to show gratitude to an individual or team of employees for the work they do. This past year, my favorite was called “Thanks for Picking up S’more Shifts.” We put together s’mores kits for our wellness team members who had been picking up additional shifts. Even though it was something small, we wanted our staff to know how much we appreciated them putting in extra hours to make sure our residents were being cared for. Knowing that your efforts are being seen that you as a person are seen, increases loyalty, productivity levels, and even motivation.
To conclude, in honor of Labor Day, September 5th, 2022, Kentridge Senior Living wants to thank our employees, and we sincerely hope each of them can feel it. Without our teams, we wouldn’t be Arrow Strong.
