Established by the National Center for Assisted Living (NCAL) in 1995, National Assisted Living Week® recognizes the role of assisted living in America while providing a unique opportunity for residents, their loved ones, staff, volunteers, and the surrounding communities to recognize the role of assisted living in caring for America’s seniors and individuals with disabilities. The annual observance encourages assisted living communities around the country to celebrate the individuals they serve while simultaneously educating members of the public about what assisted living truly looks like.
This year, The KentRidge Senior Living is celebrating the 2022 theme of “joyful moments” from September 11th to September 17th by recognizing how each department plays a role in creating joy for our residents and staff members.
It is my passion project. I love Kentridge, the community I serve, and I want to find ways to get everyone involved and make this a home full of life and laughter. I am greatly attached and protective of my residents and that it drives me to do the very best I can for them. I set that expectation for myself and the team. Because I lead by example, my team also rises. They work very hard to cultivate the environment we want for our residents and for ourselves. We are all in. As a leader if you’re not all in, what’s the point?
The team creates joyful moments on a regular basis in our community. We communicate consistently on what we see good around us. We want to take each moment that passes and live in awe of the experience. We spend each day listing goals achieved and what that means for all of us. We are constantly in search of the best quality of life we can provide to everyone we serve by having special Happy Hours and events each week. We take time to sit and talk to residents in the lobby just to see how they are doing and what we can do to help make their day better.
Resident Thelma Gilghrist says she enjoys the food and the cleanliness of KentRidge. She commented, “I would suggest to anyone to come and live here.” Lina Leonard added her favorite things about the community, “The way the staff welcomed me and my family with open arms. The friendliness and kindness made us feel welcome and at home.”
We plan to make National Assisted Living Week a special week of fun that will have a theme of the day, ending with a blowout Happy Hour.
