Each year, I select a Word of the Year to guide my focus and intentions both personally and professionally. At The Kentridge Senior Living in Kent, Ohio, the start of a new year offers the perfect opportunity to reset, refocus, and prepare for upcoming challenges and opportunities. My chosen word serves as an anchor, shaping how I lead my team, support families, and care for residents. Reflecting on 2024, I am amazed by how much my Word of the Year influenced our journey.
Our Word of the Year for 2024 was resolve, selected by our department heads to represent our collective commitment to tackling the year together. This word guided our team’s decisions, strengthened relationships, and fostered growth in meaningful ways.
Resolve inspired us to face challenges with determination and to make purposeful decisions that aligned with our goals. It also encouraged respectful and honest communication, which helped build trust and strengthen teamwork across our community. As we embraced growth, resolve motivated us to explore new ideas, adapt to change, and continuously improve. This mindset created a dynamic team culture grounded in collaboration, support, and shared success.
While resolve helped us maintain focus on achieving our goals, it also highlighted the importance of being present in the moment.
Our Word of the Year for 2025 is here. This word serves as a reminder to value the present moment. Whether we are learning from challenges, deepening connections, or celebrating achievements from 2024. By focusing on here, we aim to fully engage with where we are now, appreciating the progress we’ve made and the opportunities that lie ahead.
Embracing here allows us to make thoughtful decisions and build on the growth achieved through resolve. This mindset will ensure that 2025 is a year marked by purpose, presence, and continued success for our team and community.
As 2025 approaches, I reflect on the lessons of 2024 and look forward to stepping into a new chapter guided by my next Word of the Year. Choosing a Word of the Year isn’t about having all the answers. It’s about setting an intention and remaining open to the journey it inspires.
